For over 20 years now, Ford has been helping drivers escape from their humdrum daily commute by providing a compact SUV that delivers on quality and is also fun to drive. The 2023 Ford Escape represents the latest version of this fine vehicle that first hit the road back in 2001. Ford has done this by revising the interior and exterior styling of the Escape while giving it updated technology to make driving safer and more enjoyable. This is because Ford understands that drivers want more out of their vehicles than just dependability and fuel economy, things that Ford delivers in the 2023 Escape. Drivers also want a vehicle that they can enjoy driving since the average commuter spends a good part of the waking day behind the wheel of their car.

Escape From the Mediocre With Four Different Engine Choices

Drivers aren’t always looking for the same things in a vehicle. Some drivers want to get the most fuel economy, stretching their gas dollars as far as they will go. Other drivers are more concerned with performance, looking for vehicles that will provide the best acceleration. Ford understands this, which is why it offers the 2023 Escape with three different drive trains.

The engine featured on the Base, Active and ST-Line trims is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost I-3 gas engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This uses a turbocharger to get the most out of its three cylinders. In addition, the Auto Stop-Start Technology on this engine helps reduce fuel consumption by turning the engine off when you come to a stop and then restarting it as soon as you lift your foot off the brake pedal. As a result, this engine will give you 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. That is enough power to tow up to 2,000 pounds.

The Escape ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, and Platinum trims feature a different standard than the other three trims. This is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 gas engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It also uses Auto Stop-Start Technology to improve fuel economy. However, it has a twin-scroll turbocharger that boosts performance to a blistering 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Not only does it improve the Escape’s speed and acceleration. It also gives it enough strength to tow an impressive maximum of 3,500 pounds.

Ford offers a hybrid engine on all of the trims except the Base and Active models. This is a 2.5-liter iVCT Atkinson-Cycle I-4 Hybrid engine. It combines the I-4 gas engine with an electric motor in the front axle powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. This gives a combined 192 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a special eCVT hybrid transmission, which seamlessly shifts between the gas engine and the electric motor. As a result, you will get unparalleled fuel economy from choosing the hybrid engine option. The only drawback is the trailering rating drops to 1,500 pounds. However, if you don’t plan on using your Escape for towing, then this shouldn’t be a problem.

The fourth engine option is available only on the Escape Plug-in Hybrid model. This features a 2.5-liter I-4 plug-in hybrid engine with an eCVT hybrid transmission. The engine comes paired with a 14.4 kWh electric motor in the front axle, giving it exceptional fuel economy. The battery has a 37-mile range on electric-only operation. Just like the hybrid engine option on the other Escape trims, the battery uses brake recapture and energy from the gas engine to recharge itself. However, it also features a useful plug-in feature, so you can also recharge the battery by plugging in at home or at a public DC fast-charging station. This makes the Escape Plug-in Hybrid a truly convenient way to save money on gas.

Escape to a World of Unparalleled Infotainment

These days, most vehicles feature their automakers’ infotainment platform on a dashboard-mounted touchscreen. However, not all infotainment systems have been created equal. The 2023 Escape sports Ford’s new SYNC 4 system, the most advanced infotainment system created to date by this automaker. This features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This allows you to connect your smartphone to the system without having to hassle with charging cables. The Base, Active, ST-Line, and ST-Line Select models feature an eight-inch LCD color touchscreen, while the Escape ST-Line Elite, Platinum, and Plug-in Hybrid models come with a 13.2-inch LCD touchscreen. All of these, except the one on the Base model, have a touchscreen that allows you to scroll between apps and features with the touch of a finger.

FordPass Connect comes standard on the 2023 Escape. This allows you to stay connected to your vehicle through your smartphone. This even has a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot that will provide Internet access for up to ten devices within 50 feet of your vehicle. This will help you stay better connected wherever you escape to in your Escape.

Each 2023 Escape is equipped with a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system. A B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen. This has ten speakers carefully spaced throughout the Escape’s passenger cabin to maximize aural enjoyment. It even has a subwoofer to give you an exceptional bass response.

Escape to Exceptional Passenger Safety

Ford has made safety standard on each model of the 2023 Escape by including its Ford Co-Pilot360 vehicle safety and driver assistance technology. This consists of six different active safety features that will help you get where you are going as safely as possible. Many of these are only available from other automakers as options on higher trims on similar vehicles to the Escape.

The Pre-Collision Assist system contains a number of different safety features that will help you to avoid an accident or mitigate the damages of an unavoidable collision. Forward Collision Warning will sound an alarm if you are approaching another vehicle with too much speed so you can step on the brakes to bring your Escape to a stop. Similarly, Pedestrian Detection has been set to detect pedestrians in the path of your vehicle and alert you to their presence so you can avoid hitting them. Once the system has detected a vehicle or pedestrian in the path of your Escape, it will engage the Automatic Emergency Braking system and use Dynamic Brake Support to help you stop your Escape from colliding with the vehicle or pedestrian in your path.

One of the biggest causes of accidents on the highway is drifting. Sometimes, drivers get distracted and steer slightly into an adjacent or oncoming lane. If this occurs, the Lane-Keeping System will alert you to this and use slight steering adjustments to get you back in the lane. Similarly, the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) will let you know if there is another vehicle riding in your Escape’s blind spot when you signal to change lanes. The BLIS system also includes Cross-Traffic Alert to let you know if another car or pedestrian is about to cross behind you when you have your Escape in reverse. This helps supplement the standard Rear View Camera.

Driving at night can often be a hassle for many drivers. Some forget to turn their headlights on when it gets dark outside. Others have the habit of leaving their high beams on, distracting drivers who are in front of or approaching their vehicle. Ford covers both of these situations. Your Escape will turn your headlights on as soon as it gets dark. The Ford Escape also has Auto High-Beam Headlamps, which turn the high-beams on and off as necessary. These features will allow you to spend more time focusing on your driving when you are traveling in your Escape at night.
