So you’ve decided to go electric. It’s not at all surprising, given the fact that fuel prices are through the roof. There are a good amount of manufacturers out there trying like mad to get in on the EV craze that was, if we’re honest, kicked off by Tesla. GM is investing $35 million over the next few years to eventually have 100% of their lineup be electric. But you’re not here for GM. No, you’re here for Ford and that snazzy new Mach-E.

As your Ford Mach-E dealer, we know that Ford riled the fury of a good number of auto purists when it announced that it was creating an electric Mustang. An electric Mustang? Who thought that was a good idea? Ford did, and they weren’t wrong because their EV line is selling like hotcakes, despite it being an SUV model rather than a pony car. No doubt it was wise on Ford’s part to combine the nostalgia of the Mustang with the new-age cool factor of an EV. So, if you’re in the market for an EV that looks fantastic and won’t break your budget, you need to consider the Mach-E.

A Sleek and Stylish Exterior

For a long time, the field of EV design was ceded to those over at Tesla. Honestly, a few years ago, what was cooler looking than a Model X? Ford took the cue that consumers were longing for cars that they could get excited about, and while we can’t say for sure that they were inspired by Tesla’s success, market and government pressure no doubt played a significant role in Ford ramping up its EV line. And, as we said, they were very smart to start with an electrified Mustang.

The Mach-E looks just enough like a Mustang to be familiar to the eye while still maintaining its own uniquely sporty and simultaneously rugged-looking SUV design. In a world where torque and horsepower are everything, the fact that the Mach-E looks like it could devour any road you place it on is certainly going to have an appeal. There is no doubt that the Mach-E is meant to be an electric SUV version of the Mustang.

So, the design is obviously very Mustang-inspired. The current Mustang is a perfect blend of OG nostalgia mixed with a modernist design. The sleek headlights, the harsh lines, the square “I’m comin’ after you” stance—all classic Mustang. The Mach-E is all of that, only broader and slightly more toned down. Yes, it is an SUV, but Ford has really gone out of its way to emphasize the Sport factor here. The Mach-E is very aerodynamically shaped, which is beneficial as wind resistance, like in a normal car, is going to make the car run harder.

Having the Mach-E stand several inches higher off of the road gives it a very powerful feeling when you’re behind the wheel. Aside from the fact that the lowest level trims have no grille (and why would they, there’s no need for air intake when you’re powered by batteries), you would not know this was an electric car based solely on looks alone. This is key here because there are still a great number of people who are apprehensive about EVs. Making them look insanely cool is one step closer to getting the mass market to accept them.

A Versatile Interior

You can fit five people into the Mustang Mach-E. We know, saying that you can fit five passengers into your Mustang is pretty cool. What’s even cooler is the fact that with the absence of the traditional engine, you have some extra cargo room up front that you wouldn’t otherwise have. Popping the hood on a Mach-E will reveal to you a small, stow-and-go compartment that you could easily fit a gym bag or some bags of groceries in. Also, not having the engine means that there is extended legroom throughout so that you and your passengers are in for one comfortable ride.

The design of the interior almost has a space-age quality to it. Everything is tech, from the digital dashboard to the enormous screen planted in the middle of the dash (more on that in a minute). But everything is streamlined and smooth to marry with the exterior of the car. It almost has an elevated luxury feeling without necessarily being a luxury car, and it doesn’t have a luxury price tag, either. You can grab a brand-new 2023 Mach-E for $46,895 to start.[a] That’s not bad, considering how relatively new automotive EV technology is.

Onboard Tech

Okay, onto the tech. Of course, the Mustang Mach-E is going to have some pretty desirable technology features. The first thing that really stands out is the fact that Ford has basically glued a giant iPad onto the dashboard. There is a giant, 15.5-inch, vertically mounted touchscreen serving as your technology command center. From here, you can control the cabin temperature, chat hands-free over the phone, and control the volume of the music with an actual volume knob located near the bottom of the screen.

Mach-E’s are equipped with Ford’s new SYNC 4A system. It responds to voice recognition, integrates several apps, predicts your destination, and gives you immediate access to your favorite songs. One awesome thing the Mach-E has is BlueCruise. Not to be outdone by Tesla, BlueCruise is Ford’s version of the autopilot. Ford has mapped over 130,000 miles of what they call “Blue Zones,” which are sections of the highway in which you can engage BlueCruise, let go of the wheel, and let the Mach-E drive itself. This is partnered with the already available Ford Co-Pilot 360, which offers a slew of driver-assist technology like automatic high beams, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, and the Lane-Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist. All of this is designed specifically to ensure that you are safe while driving, filling in the safety gaps wherever you may be lacking.

Battery Range

You might think that all of this technology would wear down the battery, causing you to have a very short range of travel. This, we are pleased to say, is not the case. The battery in a Mach-E will get you a pretty decent range, depending on the trim level you get.

The base Select trim will get you up to 247 miles of range with standard RWD, though eAWD is available. The GT will get you up to 270 miles of range with eAWD, the Premium will get you up to 306 miles with RWD or eAWD, and the new California Route 1 will get you up to 312 miles with eAWD. Anything over 250 miles is excellent range when it comes to an EV as the market currently stands, so the higher trims are definitely great choices.

An Exciting EV

There are more numbers and stats that we could throw at you, but even with just this, it’s clear that the Mustang Mach-E is living up to its namesake. To be a Mustang, a vehicle has to look cool, be cool, and get you places, and the Mach-E delivers all of this with zero emissions. If you’re looking for a cool, affordable EV that isn’t a Tesla, then the Mach-E is the right choice for you. Here at Gengras Ford, we are happy to show you everything the Mustang Mach-E has to offer and help you navigate the changes that come with owning an electric vehicle.
