How strong are your sense of wanderlust and your passion for the outdoors? Off-roading is one of the fastest-growing hobbies around the country because you can make it what you want. It can satisfy your need for adventure and get you closer to nature; whether you do it alone or with a caravan of friends is entirely up to you. We’re here with an all-new SUV from Ford that can easily answer when the trail calls – the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline.

Whether you’re new to off-roading or you’re a veteran you’re likely wondering what an Expedition can offer on the trail. This full-size SUV isn’t often found beyond the pavement, but Ford is determined to change that with the Timberline, promising a new generation of family adventure to make the Expedition one of the most versatile SUVs on the road (or trail) today. Here’s everything we know about the 2022 Timberline and its potential on the trail.

#1 – Raptor-Inspired Performance

The F-150 Raptor is Ford’s ultimate off-road warrior and is the inspiration behind the 2022 Expedition Timberline, which is designed to give families the best of both worlds – the practicality of an SUV and the off-road capability of an adventure-ready truck. The similarities start under the hood, with the Timberline promising Raptor-like performance courtesy of the same high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. On the Timberline, the V6 delivers best-in-class 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque for maximum capability.

#2 – Bronco-Inspired Trail Tech

The Timberline also takes inspiration from the legendary Ford Bronco, which recently made its return to the Ford lineup. The Timberline is equipped with the same Trail Turn Assist technology that’s found on the new four-wheel-drive Bronco. The system tightens the Expedition’s turning radius on tight trails, which means more possibilities for adventure even when the going gets tough.

#3 – It’s Lighter and More Capable Than Competitors

There’s no doubt that Jeep is a popular choice in the off-road segment with models like the Wrangler and the upcoming Wagoneer. However, Ford is determined to carve its own place in the segment with the Expedition Timberline and, if you ask us, it’s already off to a great start. The Timberline is lighter than the Wagoneer, which means it’s easier to handle and delivers more horsepower and torque than the Jeep. This power translates to greater capability on the trail, whether you’re crawling rocks, navigating water crossings, or maneuvering through sand or mud.

#4 – More Control on the Trail

The Timberline is designed to answer the call of adventure, which is why Ford equips the SUV with the latest technology to give you more control and confidence when you’re on the trail. You’ll find the Timberline is equipped with Ford’s latest Trail Control technology, which Ford first introduced on the Raptor in 2019. The system is like cruise control for off-road driving, managing the throttle and brake at speeds up to 20 mph so that you can focus on the trail ahead. On the Timberline, this means you can focus on climbing steep obstacles and navigating tight terrain with ease.

#5 – Intuitive Technology at Your Fingertips

The Timberline is designed for adventure, but Ford also ensures its versatility and practicality. Let’s be honest – it’s a great SUV for a family, and Ford capitalizes on this as well. That’s why you’ll find the Expedition Timberline is laden with intuitive technology that keeps you informed and connected both on and off the pavement.

You’ll find a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel that gives you a clear view of your speed, mileage, navigational cues, and off-roading data. The Expedition’s center dashboard features either a 12-inch or 15.5-inch touchscreen display, the latter of which is the largest in the segment. Home to the SYNC 4 system, the touchscreen display is your hub of connectivity and gives you access to your smartphone and apps via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The SYNC 4 system is also equipped with Ford’s Power-Up software, which delivers over-the-air software updates that ensure you have the latest software whenever you get behind the wheel.
